why it is tough to be a feminist these days, Part 1

My school has these booths set up in the sub this week by the sexual assault support center, which ironically has the same acronym (SASC) as the social and cultural activities office for exchange students at the university I went to in Switzerland. Funny.

Anyway, there is also this on-campus student organization called the Womyn's Center, which I have to confess I don't really get. What is served by changing one letter in the word 'women,' really? Shouldn't they be worrying about serious issues like date rape and institutionalized sexism and the pay gap rather than ensuring that we start calling cd players 'discwomen?' I am a big believer in the power of language, but surely a rose by any other name?

I had written much more in here but this fucking shit excuse for a computer deleted it all. So at the risk of leaving things unfinished, I will try and follow this up later.

A bientot.
